Otto Bock CEO Hans Georg Näder appointed as new guest professor of Capital Medical University.

University President Professor Lu Zhaofeng presents the guest professorship to Professor Hans Georg Näder.

On Monday (October 26, 2009), the Capital Medical University appointed Hans Georg Näder as its guest professor in Berlin’s partner city of Beijing. This award to the chairman and CEO of Otto Bock HealthCare constitutes another component of German-Chinese cooperation in the field of medical technology. A delegation from the CDPF, the organisation for the disabled responsible for 80 million Chinese, had already visited the Otto Bock Science Center Medical Technology in Berlin in May 2009.

University President Professor Lu Zhaofeng presented the award. In his laudation, the dean Professor Liu Zhicheng who is responsible for the field of medical technology expressed his thanks to Professor Näder who, as a groundbreaking entrepreneur, has done much to address the concerns of people with disabilities in China.
Now students in Beijing will also benefit from the knowledge of the German global market leader in the prosthetics field. Founded in Berlin in the year 1919, Otto Bock HealthCare has operated a subsidiary in Beijing for 16 years and supported the 2008 Paralympics with a team of 136 prosthetists there.

In his inaugural lecture before students in the faculty of medical technology, Näder talked about prospects for the future and the opportunities for growth arising from demographic developments. With the pace of innovation in the extensive field from prosthetics to neurostimulation, people with disabilities are gaining mobility and public perception is changing. The education of highly qualified young scientists is essential in order to participate in these developments.

In Berlin, Otto Bock HealthCare cooperates with Berlin Technical University in the field of biomechanics under the leadership of Professor Dr. Marc Kraft and with the Unfallkrankenhaus Berlin (one of the largest trauma centres in Germany), among others. Professor Dr. Axel Ekkernkamp, CEO and Medical Director of the hospital, signed a cooperation agreement with Dr. Li Jianjun of the China Rehabilitation Research Center (CRRC) in November 2007 for the exchange of doctors and specialised medical knowledge.

Berlin and Beijing are developing an interesting medical technology network. The umbrella association of the CRRC is the organisation for the disabled CDPF, which in turn has been cooperating with the German statutory accident insurance company in Berlin since 2006 and whose President Madam Tang Xiaoquan was among the highest-ranking guests of honour at the awards ceremony for Professor Näder in Beijing – healthcare city Berlin, global knowledge network par excellence.
