Special features of the vehicle

Unrestricted mobility for Mr. Kandlbauer in cooperation with Otto Bock Austria.

It began with a vision - allowing Christian Kandlbauer to independently drive in road traffic. Both sides (PARAVAN and Otto Bock) knew that a great deal of innovativeness was required in order to implement this ground-breaking project and set an example in terms of prosthetic fittings for participation in road traffic.

As a result, the PARAVAN Mobility Park under the direction of CEO Roland Arnold and expert Ralf Giesler had numerous advance discussions with all relevant TÜV experts.

The first live tests in terms of driving skills and abilities were conducted right after the vehicle was delivered in June. These tests were conducted on the PARAVAN test course with electric guidance and 4 other vehicles with various solution options were available. In order to allow active participation in road traffic with two prosthetic arms for Kandlbauer, an optimised and perfectly tailored solution was found and defined after numerous tests.

Because of the compact design of the vehicle, the conversion proved very complicated and elaborate. Since the base vehicle, a Subaru Impreza, is a comparatively rare model, all modifications and conversion measures can be viewed as prototypes.

As the crowning achievement, Mr. Kandlbauer passed his driver's test with flying colours in October. Approval by a TÜV expert sent to Vienna for the occasion took place at the same time.

All for the benefit of unrestricted mobility for Mr. Kandlbauer in cooperation with Otto Bock Austria.
