Hans Sprenger had his lower leg amputated in 2002. At the time, he accepted his amputation relatively quickly. That was mainly because he was always kept informed about the next steps at the hospital. “Whenever I failed to understand something, I asked. When you understand what’s happening to you, it’s easier to prepare for what comes next,” Hans Sprenger says today. “Of course, support during this time is also very important. You need someone to tell you that you can do it. My wife, children and grandchildren were a great help to me at the time.”
Hans Sprenger was 63 years old when he fell off a ladder while repairing his house. His right leg landed directly on the edge of his spade. After ten days in hospital, he learned that two of his toes needed to be amputated. But that was just the first amputation. Two more amputations followed over the course of the next two weeks because of insufficient wound healing. The final amputation was approximately 15 cm below the knee.
Today Hans Sprenger does plenty of work around his house and garden. But he also travels a lot with his wife. “Germany still has much for us to discover.” Hans Sprenger and his wife visit German cities or go on weekend excursions, for example to the Harz. “We would like to visit the Mecklenburg lakes district next. After all, there is still much to see and explore in the new federal states and we had to wait long enough to do so.”
As a lower leg amputee, Hans Sprenger received an individual fitting with a prosthetic foot, adapters and connecting elements to the prosthetic socket.
The C-Walk prosthetic foot was developed for highly active people such as Hans Sprenger. Negotiating slopes and walking on uneven surfaces in comfort does not pose a problem with the C-Walk. Shock absorption during heel strike and physiological rollover, even at changing walking speeds, facilitate a harmonious, dynamic movement pattern that actively helps relieve strain on the sound leg.
